UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Two men were mugged at gunpoint on the Upper East Side in early January by a duo of armed robbers, police said.
The robberies occurred within a span of two days in the upper East 70s and lower East 80s, police said. During both muggings, victims were threatened with a firearm and ordered to hand over their money.
The first mugging happened on the evening of Jan. 4 inside the vestibule of an apartment on East 82nd Street and Second Avenue, police said. A 76-year-old man was approached by the robbers in the confined space and threatened with a gun. He complied with the robbers and handed over $100 in cash, police said.
The muggers struck again the following night, targeting a 38-year-old man in front of a building on East 78th Street by the East River. This time, the robbers assaulted their victim, inflicting a wound to the man's face. Muggers were unable to steal anything from the man during the attack, and fled the scene empty-handed, police said.
Police released photos of the two suspects (seen above) taken by security cameras near both crime scenes.
