IKEA recalls 'Troligtvis' travel mug over concerns of excessive chemical substance - The Jakarta Post - Jakarta Post

Swedish furniture giant IKEA is recalling its "Troligtvis" travel mug from its store in Indonesia amid concerns that the product may contain excessive levels of a particular chemical.

In a statement published on its official website, IKEA Indonesia asked anyone in possession of the mug marked "Made in India" to stop using the product and return it to the store instead.

“IKEA urges customers that have the travel mug to return the product to any IKEA store for a full refund in the form of an IKEA return voucher,” the furniture company said, adding that customers were not required to bring proof of purchase of the product, such as a receipt.

According to IKEA, the Troligtvis travel mug has been sold in the store since October last year. The company recently received reports of tests showing that the product "may migrate levels of Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) exceeding the prescribed limits".

Dibutyl phthalate is an organic compound that is commonly used as a plasticizer in making flexible plastics that are found in a variety of consumer products.

IKEA said it had long decided to ban all use of phthalate in any products that had direct contact with food and therefore stopped selling the travel mugs following investigations.

IKEA Indonesia said it paid great attention to all its products and each of them were continuously tested and must meet every standard and law, and also IKEA requirements.
